As people get busier and the country more influenced by Latin America, online spanish courses for college credit have become indispensable to many Americans. With the population of the United States expected to be largely Hispanic by the year 2050, the need for the monoglot American to expand his or her linguistic horizons is more pressing than ever.
These classes are not for everyone, however.
It takes a special student to do online classes, especially in a field that can be as intimidating and frustrating as a foreign language. Many online students never actually get to speak with a professor or other students. There is sometimes a message board and almost always the email address of the administrator. With that being said, online classes provide a level of comfort and flexibility that on-site courses cannot offer.

The University of Phoenix, probably the most advertised online school, offers a wide range of Spanish courses for credit.
There is even an option to do an Masters of Business Administration (MBA) in Spanish all online.
Other schools like Kaplan University and AIU offer similar courses of study all available on the internet.
As the country becomes more closely tied to Latin America, it's about time Americans learn to speak another language.
With online Spanish courses and on site courses, no one has an excuse for being an English-only citizen.
